Minister: iPhone share on Russian market to halve by 2025
MOSCOW, May 18 (PRIME) -- The number of Apple’s iPhones in the hands of Russian users will decrease because of difficulties with payment and downloading of applications and their market share will halve in 2024, Digital Development Minister Maksut Shadayev said on Wednesday at a forum.
“The Digital Development Ministry has prepared an outlook that with the current situation taken into account, the share of iPhone devices will halve on the Russian market by the end of 2024…It is clearly a matter of convenience of services – payment, an option to download an application,” Shadayev said.
“With more private architecture (of the iPhone), users will be gradually switching to the Android platform if it keeps these signs of openness,” he said.
Apple said in early March that it terminated sales of its products in Russia. According to IDC analysts, Apple sold 5 million iPhones in Russia in 2021, which secured it a share of 16% of all sales in the country.
